Hello again, gang. It's Animeboye. I know haven't been very active lately. I'm working on yet another picture then I have a secret project I've got planned. I won't say what it is(and no, it's not a TF story). Well anyway, since I haven't posted a journal in a while, I figured I would go over my most favorite movies. I have quite a lot of them, some of which I didn't include in my info. Most of these aren't in any particular order (except the last few).
So with that said, here's my list of favorite movies and why I love them.
First up...
REAR WINDOW- I admit it. I'm eighteen years old and I ADORE Hitchcock's work. He's an incredible director and even though I've seen so little of his work, I loved each moment of them. Rear Window is a movie that really surprised me when I first saw it. Most of the film is set in our protaganist's appartment where he spends his days waiting for his leg to heal after an incident. The movie does move a bit slow at times and at times seems to drag but in the end we are given a satisfying climax and a really intresting mystery. The setting is wonderful which is a surprise considering there are only two real places we even see, the main character's appartment and outside his appartment. Still Rear Window is a definate favorite.
STAR WARS- Yeah I know it might seem kinda cliched putting Star Wars on this list but what can I say? It's a great story! This movie is proof that you can have a blockbuster and yet still have it turn out good in the end. I don't know much what I can say that anyone else hasn't already said. So I guess...moving on...
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE- This movie is just...it's probably the most flawless movie I've ever seen! It's disturbing when it needs to be, it's humorous when it needs to be, it's dark, it's sick and yet it really makes you think. The main character is named Alex DeLarge. A juvenile delinquent who loves nothing more than a bit of the old ultra-violence. One day he's arrested and sent to jail where he agrees to undergo correctional treatment. When he's released back into society, he may have changed but the people who he had wronged have a bone to pick with him. The movie intrigues me in the fact that it's so strange. The setting is awkward as hell, the characters are even weirder(And I don't just mean Alex and his droogs) yet at the core of it is an incredible movie. It is disturbing I will admit(Rape scene near the beginning) and yet the violence in the movie is necessary. It helps to tell the story. I also really like how Alex is at first an unlikeable prick, then when he's let out of prison, you just can't help but feel bad for him. He no longer has free will. He can't even defend himself from those looking for revenge. If you haven't seen Clockwork Orange, you really need to. It's beautiful, haunting, thought provoking and is almost near perfection.
PHANTASM- I think this just might be my very favorite horror movie. While most horrors don't even have a grounded plot, Phantasm manages to have both an intresting plot and a very kick ass villian. The story foucuses on a 13 year old boy whose older brother is planning to leave town. While he follows his brother around town, he eventually discovers an old man who works at the town morgue, stealing the casket of his brother's deceased friend. Determined to uncover the true identity of this Tall Man, the two brothers, and their friend Reggie set out to defeat the Tall Man. Now this film is one any horror fan needs to check out. It's got a disturbing atmosphere, a genuinely creepy villian, characters that actually develop through the story, and a plot twist that will leave you with more questions than answers. So just who is the Tall Man? Well...
PSYCHO- OK, I promise this is the last Hitchcock movie. I'll admit, I wasn't crazy about Psycho at first. I got it for my 15th birthday but was never too intrested to really watch it. While it did bore me at first, I watched it again, surprised at what I was missing! Like Phantasm, Psycho doesn't rely on blood and gore to scare. All it needs is for it to be in black and white, have a creepy atmosphere, and of course, a shower. Why a shower? WATCH THE DAMN THING FOR YOURSELF AND SEE!! Oh yeah, it also needs a really cool music video in dedication to it
[link]PONYO- Wow! Three Ps in a row XD! Anyway, I already mentioned why I liked this movie so please refer to my review on this film to find out why I like it.
THE DARK KNIGHT- It's not often I like superhero movies. I actually find them to be huge snoozefests. But Dark Knight was different. There were moments in the movie where I forgot I was watching a Batman film because if actually felt more like a genuine thriller than a superhero movie. The acting was magnificent(Especially you, Heath Ledger), The story wasn't deep or anything but it did have a good point on pointing out being a hero and being a vigilante. While I still consider Batman a hero, he is a vigilante. Hey, why can't he be both?
THE USUAL SUSPECTS- Without a doubt my favorite thriller! This was yet another movie I saw in my freshman years and to this day, I still hold it in high regard. The mystery of just who Keyser Soze is is both obvious and yet not obvious. Especially when just about any of the cast could be Keyser. The story is intruging and will definatley keep you guessing from beginning to end. Also, for any fans of Kevin Spacey, this film's for you!
And my number one favorite movie. The movie which I love above all else is...Drumroll please *Drumroll*
THE LAND BEFORE TIME- I know it must seem odd for someone my age to have an animated movie from the 80's as their most favorite film. Well, what can I say? I grew up with the franchise. The first Land Before Time was in fact the very first movie that I had ever seen. Yes, in all my 18 years. This movie was my first. Now there was a time when I stopped liking the movies then I forgot about them altogether. But since I turned 18, I can feel my childhood coming back in a sense. Anyway, what is it exactly that I love about Land Before Time? A lot of things. I guess first off, what I like about it is that the movie isn't sugarcoated. It's a dark and deep movie that gets its point across without having to cut corners or do any aforementioned sugarcoating. I also admire the fact that Don Bluth was able to make Littlefoot and his friends cute without literally throwing their cuteness in our faces screaming "LOOK AT THE CUTE DINOSAURS!!! LOVE THEM!! LOVE THEMMMMM!!!!" The characters are all loveable in their own way and each one has a unique personality that, while seperates them apart from each other, somehow molds them together into what is almost like a surrogate family. I do have mixed feelings about the ending. It's sweet and everything yet strangely...I always feel...empty after watching the end. I don't know. Maybe the thought of my childhood heroes growing up and eventually dieing makes me sad(Yes I know they're dinosaurs and that they do eventually die). Oh yeah, Littlefoot FOREVER!!
So there you have it. My most favorite movies.
