Why I love my (art) style so much

Hi guys. I want to let everyone know that I'm feeling better from last night and just needed to vent my anger. Thanks to everyone who responded. You guys are the best.

So to move away from yesterday's journal and focus on a more "happy" topic, I want to tell everyone just why it is that I care about my art so much. Some of my friends on DA (well it's really one friend since I had a falling out with the other one) complained to me earlier in the year, saying how I was so obsessed with my art. Well I realize that I am. For those of you who I would talk to on MSN, you know that I would send links to my art and bring it up if we had nothing else to talk about.

Well anyway, the reason why I love my art so much is very simple: I love it because it's a part of me. My characters help me through very suck ass days. When I'm angry or sad, I look at one of my pics and I feel a whole lot better. These characters make me feel better about myself and give me a reason to always try and achieve my dream of writing stories and comics. To me, Kenta, Sasuke, Titus (the fox boy), Zobias and any future characters I may post on my DA are like my children. I love each and every one of them and yes, I do feel the need to brag about them at times. There's nothing wrong with braging about something you created. Why do children brag about something they drew or made for their parents? Because they're proud of what they themselves made. I'm proud of my art and I'm proud of how it's evolved. I'm proud of the evolution of my characters and I'm proud of how both my anatomy and proportion went from being terrible to actually pretty decent. I realize not everyone enjoys it. But there are those that do. And I hope that those that do enjoy it will be around for future pics I may do :)

Now you know why I care so much for my art. Remember, don't be afraid to show others what you have created. If you poured your heart and soul into it, why shouldn't you show it off?

Alright. I try not to rant on DA. Yes there have been things that have made me mad but this has royally pissed me off! Be warned, there will be swearing and anger. Viewer disgression is advised.

Just now I called up my "brother" about being able to stay at his place during Comic Con. And what do I get when I call little dickshit ? I get treated like shit JUST FOR CALLING!!! He yells at me about how he's just getting in his car and that he can't talk while driving. And yet, he hadn't even started the fucking car! I tell him I just needed to ask him one thing and he's like "Gee, wonder what that could be?" So I ask the question, trying to be the adult in the situation (Ironic since he's 32 and I'm 18), ask the question, he makes up an excuse about how he's going to a costume party and that he'll call tomorrow. Yeah...The asshole can't even answer a simple yes or no question! It wouldn't have even taken two seconds for him to give the answer but it seems like nowadays it's even too much effort for someone to simply say "yes" or "no".

And with that, I have lost any and all respect I had for that asshole. I feel like a complete fool for looking up to such a jerk. And you know someone's an ass when even his own father(who is also my dad) says that his oldest son is an asshole.

So to my dear "loving brother", Go suck a fat one! I don't even care if you have kids now! With the way you are, I wouldn't be surprised if they were put in foster care! You will NOT see me at Comic Con next year or any following year! So have a jolly good life because I won't be in it! Hope your kids turn out better than you!!

Movie Review: Where the Wild Things Are

Hey, guys. So I just got back from seeing Where the Wild Things Are with some friends and decided to share my thoughts on it.

Well before I begin, this movie is pretty much a film for the fans of the book. Those who have never read the book may still find enjoyment out of it and the plot is simple enough to follow. So yeah. Anyway, my thoughts on the film. Well...I really enjoyed it. It wasn't an action packed blockbuster or a thriller but it was a deep, emotional story about growing up, imagination, the difficulties a child faces and just how difficult it truly is to be a family.

The story focuses on Max, a little kid who has his share of problems. His older sister neglects him and his mother focuses on him only when it's convient. He's bullied and doesn't really know how to control his emotions. One night, he bites his mom and runs away to the woods where he finds a small sail boat and travels to Where the Wild Things Are and becomes their king.

There were so many parts of the movie I liked. I liked how the Wild Things each had a distinct personality that really reflected both their own problems and the problems Max has to face. Carol, probably the most well known of the Wild Things, represents the anger that is built up in Max. I really enjoyed the relationship the two shared. For movie's sake, I won't spoil anything but let's just say it's incredible to watch.

The acting was another aspect of the movie I enjoyed. All the actors do an amazing and very real job of protraying these characters. Even Max Records (Who ironically plays Max), who is only 12 years old, does an incredible job! For a kid who's done so few movies, he's probably the best child actor I've ever seen. He's not annoying, he isn't "in-your-face" cute, he's just a kid. He protrays a kid who has a horrible family life and doesn't know how to handle it. And he does it in a way so amazing, you actually think this little boy running around in a wolf costume is a real child.

I will admit though that the story may be a little dull and slow at times. This actually helps in the pacing of the story IMO. It isn't meant to be a quick, action packed roller coaster like Wolverine or Star Trek. It's a slow movie that tells its story through the actions of its characters. Wether it's Max and the Wild Things having a "dirt war" or Max having some one on one time with one of his monster friends.

In short I give this movie a 9.5/10. It's a bit early for me to tell if this is a favorite of mine or not. Like Ponyo, this may be a movie that requires that I see it at least one more time to form a true opinion on it. But from what I saw, I was very impressed and even cried at the end. In front of my friends no less and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

So I guess my only question is will this win some Oscars? Well considering most movies that have been released this year have sucked major balls (Dragonball Evolution, Transformers 2 among others), I think it has a good chance of even getting a Best Picture nomination. At least, that's my opinion.

FINAL, FINAL Verdict: Go see this movie if you've grown up with the book. And even if you haven't, still go see it anyway. You'll definately have an appreciation for the book then.

Being...sick...

Sucks. At first I was ok because I thought I just had a sore throat. So earlier today, I felt like I was starting to get better but nope. Now I feel worse than before. What the hell is the point of a cold anyway? You can't get anything done with a cold. You fall behind on school work(Been absent for two days now with a possible third tomorrow). Speaking of school, I STILL need to finish a test from Monday and I need to finish up an art project! Then there's the TF sequence... *Sigh* Cold, cold, go away...*sniffles*

My Favorite Movies

Hello again, gang. It's Animeboye. I know haven't been very active lately. I'm working on yet another picture then I have a secret project I've got planned. I won't say what it is(and no, it's not a TF story). Well anyway, since I haven't posted a journal in a while, I figured I would go over my most favorite movies. I have quite a lot of them, some of which I didn't include in my info. Most of these aren't in any particular order (except the last few).

So with that said, here's my list of favorite movies and why I love them.

First up...

REAR WINDOW- I admit it. I'm eighteen years old and I ADORE Hitchcock's work. He's an incredible director and even though I've seen so little of his work, I loved each moment of them. Rear Window is a movie that really surprised me when I first saw it. Most of the film is set in our protaganist's appartment where he spends his days waiting for his leg to heal after an incident. The movie does move a bit slow at times and at times seems to drag but in the end we are given a satisfying climax and a really intresting mystery. The setting is wonderful which is a surprise considering there are only two real places we even see, the main character's appartment and outside his appartment. Still Rear Window is a definate favorite.

STAR WARS- Yeah I know it might seem kinda cliched putting Star Wars on this list but what can I say? It's a great story! This movie is proof that you can have a blockbuster and yet still have it turn out good in the end. I don't know much what I can say that anyone else hasn't already said. So I guess...moving on...

A CLOCKWORK ORANGE- This movie is just...it's probably the most flawless movie I've ever seen! It's disturbing when it needs to be, it's humorous when it needs to be, it's dark, it's sick and yet it really makes you think. The main character is named Alex DeLarge. A juvenile delinquent who loves nothing more than a bit of the old ultra-violence. One day he's arrested and sent to jail where he agrees to undergo correctional treatment. When he's released back into society, he may have changed but the people who he had wronged have a bone to pick with him. The movie intrigues me in the fact that it's so strange. The setting is awkward as hell, the characters are even weirder(And I don't just mean Alex and his droogs) yet at the core of it is an incredible movie. It is disturbing I will admit(Rape scene near the beginning) and yet the violence in the movie is necessary. It helps to tell the story. I also really like how Alex is at first an unlikeable prick, then when he's let out of prison, you just can't help but feel bad for him. He no longer has free will. He can't even defend himself from those looking for revenge. If you haven't seen Clockwork Orange, you really need to. It's beautiful, haunting, thought provoking and is almost near perfection.

PHANTASM- I think this just might be my very favorite horror movie. While most horrors don't even have a grounded plot, Phantasm manages to have both an intresting plot and a very kick ass villian. The story foucuses on a 13 year old boy whose older brother is planning to leave town. While he follows his brother around town, he eventually discovers an old man who works at the town morgue, stealing the casket of his brother's deceased friend. Determined to uncover the true identity of this Tall Man, the two brothers, and their friend Reggie set out to defeat the Tall Man. Now this film is one any horror fan needs to check out. It's got a disturbing atmosphere, a genuinely creepy villian, characters that actually develop through the story, and a plot twist that will leave you with more questions than answers. So just who is the Tall Man? Well...

PSYCHO- OK, I promise this is the last Hitchcock movie. I'll admit, I wasn't crazy about Psycho at first. I got it for my 15th birthday but was never too intrested to really watch it. While it did bore me at first, I watched it again, surprised at what I was missing! Like Phantasm, Psycho doesn't rely on blood and gore to scare. All it needs is for it to be in black and white, have a creepy atmosphere, and of course, a shower. Why a shower? WATCH THE DAMN THING FOR YOURSELF AND SEE!! Oh yeah, it also needs a really cool music video in dedication to it [link]

PONYO- Wow! Three Ps in a row XD! Anyway, I already mentioned why I liked this movie so please refer to my review on this film to find out why I like it.

THE DARK KNIGHT- It's not often I like superhero movies. I actually find them to be huge snoozefests. But Dark Knight was different. There were moments in the movie where I forgot I was watching a Batman film because if actually felt more like a genuine thriller than a superhero movie. The acting was magnificent(Especially you, Heath Ledger), The story wasn't deep or anything but it did have a good point on pointing out being a hero and being a vigilante. While I still consider Batman a hero, he is a vigilante. Hey, why can't he be both?

THE USUAL SUSPECTS- Without a doubt my favorite thriller! This was yet another movie I saw in my freshman years and to this day, I still hold it in high regard. The mystery of just who Keyser Soze is is both obvious and yet not obvious. Especially when just about any of the cast could be Keyser. The story is intruging and will definatley keep you guessing from beginning to end. Also, for any fans of Kevin Spacey, this film's for you!

And my number one favorite movie. The movie which I love above all else is...Drumroll please *Drumroll*

THE LAND BEFORE TIME- I know it must seem odd for someone my age to have an animated movie from the 80's as their most favorite film. Well, what can I say? I grew up with the franchise. The first Land Before Time was in fact the very first movie that I had ever seen. Yes, in all my 18 years. This movie was my first. Now there was a time when I stopped liking the movies then I forgot about them altogether. But since I turned 18, I can feel my childhood coming back in a sense. Anyway, what is it exactly that I love about Land Before Time? A lot of things. I guess first off, what I like about it is that the movie isn't sugarcoated. It's a dark and deep movie that gets its point across without having to cut corners or do any aforementioned sugarcoating. I also admire the fact that Don Bluth was able to make Littlefoot and his friends cute without literally throwing their cuteness in our faces screaming "LOOK AT THE CUTE DINOSAURS!!! LOVE THEM!! LOVE THEMMMMM!!!!" The characters are all loveable in their own way and each one has a unique personality that, while seperates them apart from each other, somehow molds them together into what is almost like a surrogate family. I do have mixed feelings about the ending. It's sweet and everything yet strangely...I always feel...empty after watching the end. I don't know. Maybe the thought of my childhood heroes growing up and eventually dieing makes me sad(Yes I know they're dinosaurs and that they do eventually die). Oh yeah, Littlefoot FOREVER!!

So there you have it. My most favorite movies.
