New Dragon's World
Chapter 7: Three Days Left
Drake and his friends made their way to Drake's house with Saulstrance's diary. Upon getting home, Drake noticed his parent's cars weren't in the driveway.
"Guess your parents aren't home." Sean said.
"Maybe my grandma and grandpa are home." Drake said.
"Drake, didn't you tell me once your grandparents died?" Crystal asked.
"Well...um. I'll tell you later." Drake said.
Drake knocked on the door, calling out for his grandparents.
"Grandma! Grandpa! Anyone home?" Drake yelled.
There was no answer.
"Grandma! Grandpa!" Drake called out once more.
Still no answer.
"Guess they went with mom and dad." Drake thought.
"So, now what?" Sean asked. "Should we just wait?"
Drake thought to himself. He remembered his parents telling him that if he ever got locked out or if they weren't home, they'd leave a key in somewhere Drake would be able to find it. Only problem was he didn't remember where it was.
"Crap..." Drake said under his breath.
"You say something, Drake?" Sean asked.
"I do have a key. Only problem is..."
"What?" Sean and Crystal asked at the same time.
"My parents left it around here somewhere. And...I don't remember where." Drake said.
Sean and Crystal sighed.
"How can you forget, Drake? Are you that stupid?" Sean asked, annoyed.
"Hey! My grades are higher than yours! I wouldn't be talking 'bout stupid, Sean!"
While Sean and Drake bickered back and fourth, Crystal began looking for the key. She looked under the welcome mat first. No key. She figured it might be in the mailbox. Only problem was she couldn't reach it(Being only 4'7).
"Hey, guys?" Crystal asked.
Sean and Drake didn't hear her and continued to argue.
"GUYS!!!!" Crystal shouted at the top of her lungs.
"Stop arguing, you idiots. I need help with something."
"What?" Drake asked.
"I think the key's in your mailbox, Drake. I can't reach it though. Can one of you?"
"I've never been able to reach it. I'm only 4'10." Drake said.
Sean sighed. "Fine. I'll get it."
Sean was slightly taller than Drake. Sean's height ranged around at 5'0.
Sean opened the mailbox and felt around. The tips of his fingers felt a metal, colder than that of the mailbox's. Sean grabbed it and pulled it out. Then he handed the key to Drake.
Drake took the key and stuck it into the key hole. He turned both the door handle and the key at the same time. The three heard a clicking sound, letting them know the door was open. Drake and his friends walked into the house. As soon as everyone was in, Drake took the key out of the door and shut it.
Drake, Crystal, and Sean walked into the living room. Crystal and Sean sat down as Drake turned on the lights. Afterwards, Drake sat the diary on the table and walked into the kitchen.
"Hey, you guys want anything?" Drake asked, opening the refrigerator.
"Just some water." Sean said.
"Do you have juice?" Crystal asked.
Drake grabbed a bottle of water and a carton of juice and took the drinks in to the living room. He sat the drinks next to the diary and Sean and Crystal each took their respective drinks.
"Drake, can you tell me who this 'Saulstrance' is?" Crystal asked.
Drake looked at Crystal.
"Well my grandparents told me Saulstrance is this evil dragon who wanted to make humans slaves. My grandparents and the other dragons didn't agree with Saulstrance so he attacked their villiage. The strongest dragon there fought this guy and..."
"What? What happened?" Crystal asked.
"Saulstrance killed him." Sean finished.
Crystal didn't say anything beyond this point.
"My grandparents and the dragons in that villiage used their power to send Saulstrance to our world. And also to turn him into a human as punishment for killing a fellow dragon."
"So then he returned and ran into your dad, right, Drake?" Crystal asked.
"Kind of." Drake replied.
"My dad was actually captured by Saulstrance. My mom, grandparents, uncle, aunt, cousins, and even Sean's dad saved my dad from him. But Saulstrance killed one of them."
"Who? Who'd he kill?" Crystal asked.
Before Drake could say the name, he heard a knock on the door.
"Hello? Is anyone home?" The voice called out.
"Who's that?" Sean asked.
Drake walked towards the door. "Who is it?" He asked.
"It's me. Jackie! Is that you, Drake?" The voice asked.
"Jackie?!" Sean and Crystal exclaimed at the same time.
"Who's Jackie?" Sean asked.
Drake opened the door.
"She's my cousin."
Before the kids stood a beautiful women. She had long, blonde hair, smooth to the touch and not too thick. She wore what looked like reading glasses and was dressed like she worked at a CIO company. The women looked to be in her late 20s.
"She's your cousin, Drake? She's so much older than you." Sean stated.
"Hey, brat! I'm only 27! I'm still really young!" Jackie exclaimed, taking major offense to Sean's remark.
"So what're you doing here, Jackie?" Drake asked.
"Well for one, I wanted to stop by and see my cute little cousin." She said, kneeling down and kissing Drake on his forehead. Jackie then got back to her feet.
"And two, I wanted to see how everyone was. So how's my little half-dragon cousin doing today?" Jackie asked.
"I'm..." Drake didn't know how to respond to that. For him, today wasn't particularly good.
"I'm fine, I guess." Drake responded.
"Wait, wait, wait! You guys keep calling Drake a half-dragon but he looks like a normal boy." Crystal said.
Drake closed his eyes. Crystal watched in amazement as Drake's ears turned into fins and as two wings and a tail ripped out of his clothes. Drake now stood before Crystal in his real form.
Crystal was silent for a few seconds. Then finally responded to the real Drake.
"Cool." Crystal said, casually, as if nothing had even happened.
Sean thought to himself, "Cool?! I freaked out when he did that and she just thinks it's cool???"
"So where's your mom and dad, Drake?" Jackie asked.
"They should be back soon. I think they went somewhere." Drake said, his dragon parts still showing.
After a short while, Titus and Sarah returned, as did Titus' parents.
"We're home, Drake!" Titus called out.
Titus walked into the living room and noticed everyone sitting around the table.
"Jackie?" Titus asked.
Jackie ran up to her uncle and gave him a big hug.
"Long time no see, Uncle Titus. How've you been?"
"I'd be better if you let go of my neck." Titus said in a monotone voice.
Jackie let go of her uncle and walked back to her chair.
"Dad, dad! We've got something to show you!" Drake exclaimed, running up to his dad, diary in hand.
"What's this?" Titus said, taking the diary from his son.
Drake explained everything. He explained to his parents about how he, Sean and Crystal snuck into Saulstrance's house and took his diary.
"I see." Was all Titus said.
"Drake. Technically what you did was wrong. Breaking into somebody's house. You might've been arrested." Titus scolded his son.
"I'm sorry, dad." Drake said, in a kind of melancholy voice.
"But...You actually helped us a lot. I didn't even have the slightest clue of where Saulstrance might have been. At least now we know."
"So what'll you do now?" Jackie asked.
"We'll go after Saulstrance in three days." Titus explained.
"Three days???" Drake asked. "You said a week!"
"I said a week because I didn't know where Saulstrance was. In that week, I was gonna try and find something that might help us find him. Now that we have that 'something', we don't need to wait anymore." Titus explained.
Jackie stood up. "Then why three days? What are you going to do in those three days, Uncle?" Jackie asked.
"I'm gonna find Ben, Jessie, and Kyle. I want everyone to be with me when I finally make Saulstrance pay for what he did to Angela and everyone else who died because of him!"
"Angela?" Crystal thought. "Was she the friend of Drake's dad Saulstrance killed?"
"I think my brother's still on his collage campus. My parents shouldn't be too far from here." Jackie said.
"But, Jackie. Your parents moved once I left for collage. I don't know where you guys moved to then."
"I'll show ya." Jackie said, flashing her uncle a wink.
"Thanks, Jackie. Really." Titus said.
Jackie and Titus walked towards the door.
"Hey, dad! I wanna come too!" Drake exclaimed.
"Alright. Alright. Come on."
The three headed for Titus' car. Their first stop: Kyle's collage.
