                                                New Dragon's World
                                                Chapter 6: Day 1

The school bell rang, notifying the children that it was time to go home. Drake, however, sat in his chair, his head rested on his desk. Drake himself knew this may be the last time he ever sees his school. His head was clouded with thoughts on the upcoming day. The day he and his family fights Saulstrance.

"Drake, are you okay?" A girl's voice called to him.

Drake awoke from his thoughts and looked up, noticing his classmate, Crystal standing next to him. Crystal had long, brown hair and wore a white dress. Her eyes were a deep blue. Almost as deep as the ocean.

"Hey, Crystal, what time is it?" Drake asked.

"It's four o' clock. The school bell rang an hour ago!" Crystal exclaimed.

"What?!" Drake asked.

"She's right, Drake." Ms. Thermacker said.

Drake's teacher got out of her chair and walked over to her young student.

"Drake, what's been going on? Your friends are all very worried about you, your grades are starting to slip, and you haven't been paying attention in class. Drake, is something going on with your family?"

Drake nodded.

"Oh, dear. Drake, honey, sit up and tell me all about it."

Drake brought his head up and looked at his teacher.

"Drake, is there any problems at home?" Ms. Thermacker asked.

"No." Drake responded.

"Then what's wrong with you, Drake? Is one of your friends angry at you?"

"No. It's not that..." Drake replied.

"Well what is it?" Ms. Thermacker asked, starting to lose her sympathetic tone.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Thermacker. My dad doesn't want me to tell anyone."

"Drake, has your dad ever hit you?"

"NO! My dad would never do that!" Drake exclaimed angrily. He got out of his chair and walked out.

"Drake, wait!" Ms. Thermacker shouted.

Crystal ran after Drake. Drake was at his locker, getting his stuff out. He grabbed his backpack and his books and shut his locker. He heard someone behind him. He turned around to see who it was. It was Sean and Crystal.

"Drake, what's gotten into you?" Crystal asked. "I've never seen you like this. You've never gotten so mad at anyone. You're hardly talking now, too."

"It's nothing." Drake said, coldly.

"But, Drake..."

"IT'S NOTHING!!" Drake shouted.

Sean raised his fist and punched Drake in the face, knocking Drake to the ground.

"Drake, stop being such a jerk! Crystal just wants to help!" Sean said, angerly.

Drake rubbed his cheek and got back on his feet. He looked at his friends with an angry expression. Drake shut his locker and ran off, not saying anything.

Drake got outside of school and went to sit by the flagpole. He wrapped his arms around his legs and buried his head in his legs. He started crying. Drake didn't want to tell his friends the truth: He was scared. He was scared about having to fight Saulstrance. He was worried that he might die and he didn't want to get his friends into this.

Drake sobbed some more. Just then he felt someone put their arm on his back. It was Crystal. Drake looked at Crystal and Sean, with tears still flowing from his eyes.

"Guys, I'm sorry." Drake apologized. "It's just...I'm really scared."

"About what, Drake?" Crystal asked.

Drake sniffled. "Me and my parents are going to fight this dragon who's Jake's father. I'm scared that I'm gonna die."

"Jake? The new kid?" Crystal asked. "That sounds...weird."

"It's true though, Crystal!" Sean exclaimed. "My dad and Drake's dad are best friends! My dad told me about that dragon and how none of them could beat him!"

"But how is Jake this dragon's son?" Crystal asked.

"Yeah, Drake. I don't get it either." Sean added.

Drake's tears stopped. He rubbed his eyes and sniffled again. Then he prepared to tell them the truth about Jake.

"Jake is a half-dragon like me." Drake explained.

"Wait a second, Drake. Are you saying your dad's also a dragon?" Crystal asked.

"Yeah. My mom's human and my dad's a dragon so I'm part human and part dragon." Drake explained.

Crystal looked at Drake with a stumped look on her face. She had a very hard time believing any of this.

"Hey, I just thought of something." Sean said. "Where WAS Jake today?"

"Hey, yeah. He wasn't at school today." Drake replied.

"So? It's normal for kids to be sick." Crsytal said.

"Yeah but on the second day he's not here? That's not normal." Drake said.

"What about we go to Jake's house and see if he's okay? His dad might be Saulstrance but that doesn't mean he's evil too, right?" Sean asked.

"...I hope." Drake said to himself.

Drake and his friends walked from their school but suddenly...

"Hey, guys?" Sean asked. "Do any of you even know where Jake lives?"

"I do!" Crystal exclaimed.

"Where?" Drake asked.

"Same street as me. He's my neighbor."

This little bit of news came as a surprise to Sean and Drake.

"Okay, then. Let's get going!" Sean shouted.

Drake, Sean, and Crystal walked down Crystal's street.

"So where's his house?" Drake asked.

Crystal pointed to a white house. The three friends walked up to the house. They noticed there wasn't a single car in the driveway which, to them, was odd since the door was left open. Drake pushed on the door, which caused the door to open a little before slamming shut. Drake grabbed onto the handle and allowed himself in, his two friends following behind him.

Drake looked around. This house, which Saulstrance and his son were said to live in, look like a normal old house. Drake didn't understand. Was this really Saulstrance's house? And if so, where were Saulstrance and Jake?

The three continued on and got to the bedrooms. They slowly proceeded to open one of the doors. The door led to Jake's room. The walls of his room were all an ocean blue. Jake's dresser sat right next to his closet which was right next to the entrance to his room. On Jake's drsser there was a Panasonic TV with a lava lamp sitting on the righthand side of the television. To the left was his bed which was pretty messy. The walls were covered in posters of Jake's favorite TV shows, some of the posters, however, were posters of dragons.

"I guess this is Jake's room." Sean whispered.

"C'mon, let's go look for Saulstrance's room." Drake whispered.

The three friends continued down the hall and opened another door. This one was the master bedroom. Saulstrance's room. They walked over to Saulstrance's dresser and noticed a book laying right on top.

"What's that?" Crystal asked.

"I dunno. Let's see." Drake replied.

Drake began to read aloud from the small book.

April 12th 2024

My son and I just moved to California. Intrestingly enough, I seem to be getting used to human life. Maybe it was because of my wife that I have actually gotten used to this world. In truth, she's the only human I have ever loved. When my son was born, she had passed away from delivering him. I believe it was because of the pain of delivering a half-dragon child. Anyways, thanks to the knowledge of that dragon, Doulstraz's whereabouts that those two foolish humans left me twenty years ago, This may just be my chance to even the score with that lower dragon.

"Lower...dragon? Two foolish humans? He doesn't mean..."

"What, Drake?" Sean whispered.

"He's talking about my dad and my human grandparents!" Drake explained.

"Drake, keep reading. Maybe there's something in there about where Saulstrance is now." Sean said.

April 13th 2024

My son, Jakol has just started his first day at his new school. He told me something particularly intresting about one of his classmates: Seems that a boy named Drake is a half-dragon like him. When he told this Drake boy about me, he freaked out and pushed my son to the ground. Makes me happy to know that my name is infamous even to the younger generation. This particular piece of info however should be helpful if I'm to get my revenge. Now I know Doulstraz's weakness.

"Drake, what's up?" Sean asked.

"Saulstrance might plan to use me to get my dad." Drake explained.

"Hmm?" Drake looked at the page behind the one he was currently reading. There was more written on the other side. Drake turned the page and began reading.

April 15th 2024

After the incident with my son and Doulstraz's son, Jakol seems to be pretty upset. I guess he actually considered that boy a friend. Well, today is the day my plan is put into action. I will be waiting for Doulstraz and his son at Death Valley. That will be the final place where we settle this.

Drake's eyes started to water again. Drake kneeled on the ground and covered his eyes.

"I'm so sorry, Jake. I should've been nicer to you!" Drake exclaimed as he cried.

"Drake, it's okay!" Sean said. "You still might be able to make this better with him."

"Besides, right now, you've gotta get that to your dad." Crystal said.

"Yeah. At least we know where Saulstrance is now." Drake said.

The three friends took the diary with them and headed out of the house. The started to run towards Drake's house. Drake started to feel more hopeful. Now that they knew where Saulstrance was, he felt like they might just be able to put an end to this.
