New Dragon's World
Chapter 4: His Son
"Jake...how...do you...know that?"
Jake said nothing.
"Jake! What's going on? Who are you?" Drake asked.
Jake took three steps backwards and dashed as quickly as he could for the exit of the school. Drake grabbed his stuff and proceeded to give chase.
Outside, Jake ran past a group of kids, colliding with one of them and knocking both himself and the other boy over. Jake looked behind him and saw Drake running towards him. Jake got to his feet and continued to run. Drake still giving chase. However, before Drake could continue his pursuit, the boy Jake ran into stopped him.
"Hey, Drake. You got any idea why the new kid's running like a maniac?"
Drake looked at the older boy for a second. "No. Why?"
"Well because he just ran into me! I want you to tell him to watch where he's going!" The older boy said.
"Uh, okay! I will!" Drake said, getting back to his pursuit of Jake.
Drake was far behind Jake now. Jake was almost completely out of his sight. Jake ran for the back of the school, Drake still following.
At this point, Drake was almost completely exhausted. His shirt damp from sweat and his hair so wet as if he had just got done swimming. Drake stopped for a quick second to catch his breath. Then he walked towards the shed. The place he saw Jake running towards.
But by the time Drake had gotten there, there was no trace of Jake. Drake wondered to himself how Jake could have dissappeared. The shed was set up next to an outside wall so Jake wouldn't have been able to climb it. Drake didn't bother to continue his chase and decided to head home. He figured he'd try to talk to Jake tomorrow.
As he neared home, he saw Jake sitting right on the sidewalk. His legs were extended out and he seated his hands right in his lap. Drake walked up to Jake. Jake got up and was about to run again.
"Jake, stop." Drake said. "Can I just talk to you?"
Jake sat back down, as did Drake.
"Jake..." Drake began. "I just wanna know how you know my secret. I haven't told anyone except for Sean. So how do you know?"
Jake didn't talk. Instead, he got up and was about to walk away from Drake.
"Jake!" Drake exclaimed.
"...I want to show you something." Was all Jake said.
Jake led Drake to an alley. Not a soul was around that would see them.
Jake stopped all of a sudden and closed his eyes. Drake stopped walking as well.
"Jake?" Drake asked.
For half a minute, the alley was silent. Neither boy spoke. But just then, Drake noticed something happen to the back of Jake's body. The back of Jake's shorts ripped open as a reptilian tail revealed itself from the tailhole left in his pants and two lumps appeared in Jake's shirt as two elegant, leathery wings emerged from Jake's shoulders, leaving two rather large holes in his shirt.
Jake turned around and noticed Drake.
"I'm a half-dragon also, Drake. My real name is Jakol. But my friends call me Jake." The boy, now known as Jakol explained.
"But that can't be." Was all Drake managed to say. Drake looked directly at Jakol. The two boys' eyes meeting.
"Jake-- or Jakol or whoever you are, who are your parents? If you really are a half-dragon like me, then one of your parents is a dragon, right?" Drake asked.
Jakol was quiet for a second. He looked down at the ground.
"I never knew my mom. She died after I was born and my dad's been taking care of me." Jakol explained.
Drake never would have guessed that part about Jake. He didn't tell Jake but deep down, Drake felt sorry for him, having never known his own mother.
"Then who's your dad?" Drake asked.
"My dad's name?" Jakol asked.
"His name...is Saulstrance."
At that moment, Drake's heart began to race. This boy, whom he had begun to feel sympathy for was in fact the son of the dragon who had caused his family and friends so much trouble and pain?!
Drake started to breathe heavily. His mind completely withdrawn from the world and now in its own state of shock.
Jake put his hand on Drake's shoulder, snapping him out of his shock.
"Drake, what's wrong? You okay?" The half-dragon boy asked.
Drake screamed in terror and pushed Jake away from him, knocking the fellow half-dragon right on his tail.
"St-STAY AWAY FROM ME!!!" Drake screamed, running quicker than he did when he was chasing Jake.
Drake ran from the alley and didn't stop running until he had made it all the way home. As soon as he got home, Drake pounded on the door.
"Mom! Dad! Let me in!" Drake exclaimed.
The door opened and Drake dashed in.
"Drake, sweetie, what's wrong?" Sarah asked.
"Mom! Is dad home?! I need to tell him something!"
"Drake, your father's still at work. He should be home shortly. Anyway, sit down and I'll get you something to drink. You look terrible."
Sarah went into the kitchen and got her son a glass of water. She also got a glass for herself. She walked into the living room and handed her son his glass.
"Drake, are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost!" Sarah asked.
"Mom! Mom! There's this new kid at school and he--"
"Drake, settle down and speak more slowly." Sarah said.
Drake took a long hard drink of water and set his glass down on the dining room table.
"Mom. This kid at school..." Drake began.
"Yeah?" Sarah responded, taking another sip of water.
"Well he's new here, right? Well, I talked to him and he said he knew I'm a half-dragon..."
"Well did you tell him?" Sarah asked.
"No! 'Course not! But that's not the bad part!" Drake exclaimed.
"Okay. Then what is the bad part?"
"I went to talk to the kid. And he showed me something."
"What was it Drake? It wasn't drugs or anything like that, was it?" Sarah asked concerned.
"No. That's not it. This kid's a half-dragon as well. And he said his dad's name is..."
"Yeah? What about his dad's name?" Sarah asked.
"He said his dad's name is...Saulstrance..."
Upon hearing that, Sarah was also in shock. Her glass of water fell from her hands, shattering all over the floor.
"Mom?" Drake asked.
"No..." Sarah said in a quiet kind of tone.
"No. It can't be...Saulstrance...he died...I was certain he died."
The door opened. "Sarah, Drake! I'm HOOOME!" Titus called out.
Titus walked into the living room and saw his wife with a shocked expression on her face.
"Sarah, what's wrong?" Titus asked.
"Titus...there's something we need to tell you..."
After Sarah explained everything Drake told her to Titus, Titus himself fell silent. He sat down, next to his son wrapped his arms over his head.
"So it's true then. My worst fear is true. Saulstrance IS alive..."
"Dad..." Drake had never seen his parents like this before. They were a total wreck.
All of a sudden, Titus got up and headed outside.
"Titus, where are you going?" Sarah asked.
"I'm going to the Dragon Realm. I need to ask my parents something. About Saulstrance."
"Dad, I wanna go too! I wanna meet my real grandparents!" Drake exclaimed.
Titus put his hand on his son's head and rubbed his hair, just like he had done so many times.
"Drake, I gotta do this myself. I'm sorry, son."
"Titus..." Sarah said. "You're not doing this yourself. We're your family. We do things together! We help each other through thick and thin! And we'll always be there for you..." Sarah said.
Titus felt like he was about to cry. He sniffed a little and gave his family a hug.
"Well then. Is everyone ready?" Titus asked.
"Yeah! Let's go!" Drake yelled.
Titus opened up the portal to the Dragon Realm, a little technique his parents taught him during his time spent in the Dragon Realm to learn to turn back into a human. What would his parents tell him? And just what is the history behind Saulstrance?
