                                                 Chapter 3: My Name is Jake

Drake walked downstaris, noticing his dad sitting on the couch. He walked over to him.

"Dad? Can I talk to you?" Asked Drake.

"What's up, champ?" Titus asked his son.

"Dad..." Drake began. "Why don't you want me to show my friends the dragon side of me?"

"Drake, I've told you already. Your friends won't understand. It's better if you just live like a normal human." Titus explained.

"...There's more to it. Isn't there?" Drake asked, looking at the ground.

Titus turned to his son, a look of concern appearing on his face.

"This has to do with that dragon, Saulstrance. Doesn't it?" Drake asked.

Titus put his hand on his son's shoulder. Drake raised his head so that his eyes met with his father's.

"Drake, Saulstrance is dead. He's been dead for over 20 years."

"Then why can't I show my friends?!" Drake asked, getting angry.

"I've told you already! You know why you can't show them!"

"That's not the real reason!" Drake exclaimed.

"Yes it is, Drake! What do you want!?"

"THE TRUTH!!!" Drake shouted.

Titus removed his hand from his son's shoulder. He looked down and put his hands over his head.

"Dad, what's going on?" Drake asked.

Titus got up and walked over to the sliding glass door.

Titus sighed deeply before he began to talk.

"Drake..." began Titus. "You're right. There is more to it than that."

"Then what is it, dad?" Drake asked. "Please tell me."

Titus sighed again. "Alright, Drake. Sit down and I'll tell you everything."

Both father and son sat down together on the couch. Titus began to explain.

"Drake... the truth is..." Titus started to say.

"Yeah?" Drake asked.

"I've told you about what happened after that place I was being held in blew up, right?"

"Yeah. Grandma and Grandpa died when that place blew up. And... that Saulstrance's remains were never found."

"That means two things, Drake: Either Saulstrance was completely destroyed in that blast so that not even a trace of him was left. Or..."

"Or..." Drake responded.

Titus turned his head and looked directly at his son. A look of worry loomed over Titus' face.

"...Or that Saulstrance is alive."

Titus' look of worry now had even Drake in a state of worry.

"Now do you understand, Drake?" Titus asked his young son.

Drake didn't say anything. Instead he simply nodded yes.

Titus wrapped his arms around his son and hugged him.

"You're my only son, Drake. I don't want to lose you like I did Angela. If Saulstrance is alive, he might come after us. I want you to promise me, Drake."

"What?" Drake asked quietly.

"I want you to promise me two things: 1) You'll never show anyone else the dragon side of you. 2) You won't tell anyone we know about Saulstrance. If he is alive, I don't want everyone to worry. You, me, and mom are the only ones who know, okay?" Titus asked.

"Yeah, Dad." Drake responded.

Titus gave his son another big hug. Then sent him off to bed.

The next day, Drake sat in class, pondering everything his father told him.

"Drake! Earth to Drake!" Sean called out.

Drake was once again broken out of his train of thought.

"Geez, Drake. You've been acting weird all week. Is it because of your--"

Before Sean could finish his entence, Drake put his hand over Sean's mouth.

"I told you not to talk about that!" Drake exclaimed.

"Mr. Flammel! What are you doing?" Ms. Thermacker asked, walking into her classroom.

Drake reomved his hand from his friend's mouth. "Nothing, m'am." Drake said, innocently.

"Well, class, take your seats. We have a new student joining us today. Allt he way from Michigan."

"Hey, isn't Michigan pretty far?" One of Drake's classmates asked.

The whole class was in an uproar. Drake's school had always had students from out of state but never one from so far away.

As soon as the new student walked in, the class fell silent. it was a young boy. His hair was a reddish kind of color. He had short hair with bangs that nearly covered his eyes. He wore green hiking shorts and a blue shirt with a thunderbolt printed right in the middle of the shirt.

"Please introduce yourself to the class." Ms. Thermacker instructed the boy.

The boy looked at everyone. He moved his hair out of his eyes. His eyes were a deep piercing green. The young boy smiled.

"My name is Jake. It's nice to meet everyone." The boy, now known as Jake greeted.

The class murmured a little. Jake, however didn't mind. He looked around, hoping he'd be able to become good friends with his new classmates. However, the sight of Drake gave the new student a look of shock.

"Jake, you may take your seat now." Ms. Thermacker said.

Jake's seat was right behind Drake's. As Ms. Thermacker began today's lesson, Drake turned around and introduced himself.

"Hi! My name's Drake!" Drake said, being really friendly.

"H-hi, Drake." Was all Jake said.

"Drake! Are you paying attention?" Ms. Thermacker called out.

"Yes, Ms. Thermacker." Drake responded.

"Well turn around and stop bothering Jake."

Afterwards, the rest of the day went as it normally did.

As the day neared its end, Drake got all his stuff from his locker. He packed away his textbooks and zipped up his backpack. As he shut his locker, he saw Jake making his way towards him.

"Drake?"

"Yeah? What's up?" Drake asked.

"I...wanted to ask you something." Jake said.

"Okay. Go ahead."

"Drake? Yesterday, when you transformed...well...you're a half-dragon, aren't you?" Jake asked.

Drake gasped in shock. How did Jake know his secret? Did Sean tell him? It couldn't be. Sean and Drake were together the whole day and he never saw Sean once talk to Jake.

It didn't make sense to Drake. How could a kid who he only knew for a day already know his secret?

"Jake...how...do you...know that?"
