New Dragon's World
Chapter 2: Life As a Half-Dragon
As the weekend passed, Titus taught his son how to control his half-dragon powers and how to switch between his half-dragon and human forms. Eventually the weekend would pass and Drake's first day of school as a half-dragon would begin.
It was lunchtime for Drake. He sat at a table close to the entrance to the lunchroom. Instead of eating, however, Drake's thoughts were on what his parents had told him. He was not allowed to tell anyone the truth about his heritage and what he really was. The thought of it ate away at Drake.
"Hey, Drake! You okay?" A voice called out, breaking Drake's train of thought.
Drake looked up and saw his friend, Sean standing right in front of him. Sean sat his lunchtray on the table and took his seat.
"Drake, what's going on? You've been so quiet today. That's not like you."
Drake scratched his neck a little. "It's just..."
"Yeah?" Sean replied.
"It's something my parents told me."
Drake looked at his friend. "Sean."
"Yeah?" Sean asked.
"After school, I've got something I want to show you. But JUST you. Can you meet me in the back after school?" Drake asked.
Afterwards, lunch for the two friends went as it normally would. As did the rest of the day. Drake dashed towards the back of the school to wait for Sean. He'd hoped no one else would see him.
A half-hour later, Sean met up with Drake.
"Where were you?!" Drake exclaimed.
"Ms. Thermacker wanted to see me 'bout something. I told her I had to go but--"
"Sean, it's okay. Don't worry." Drake said.
"So what did you want to show me?" Sean asked.
Drake took a quick look around. Before he would show Sean the half-dragon side of him, he wanted to be sure no one was around. Not a teacher or a classmate.
As soon as Drake made sure the coast was clear, He turned his attention to Sean.
"Sean, if I show you, you've got to promise you won't tell anyone. Okay? Not Ms. Thermacker, not our classmates, not the principal. No one!"
"Okay! Okay, Drake! I get it!" Sean exclaimed.
Drake took a deep breath then closed his eyes. Slowly his ears began to turn into fins and his wings and his tail ripped out of his clothes. Drake now stood before his friend as he really was: A half-dragon.
Drake opened his eyes and noticed Sean just standing in front of Drake with his mouth hanging open. Wide eyed and in shock at what he was witnessing.
"I'm a half-dragon, Sean."
"But...how's that possible?!" Sean exclaimed in shock and amazement.
"Because my dad is a dragon. Since my mom's human, that makes me part human and part dragon." Drake explained.
A crazy look appeared on Sean's face. He could have sworn he was dreaming. His friend whom he had known for most of his life all of a sudden reveals he is in fact part dragon.
"You okay, Sean?" Asked Drake.
"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just..."
"What?" Drake asked.
"Well my dad always told me your dad was a dragon but I thought he was just kidding. He also told me that your dad and his mom and dad fought this evil dragon named Saulstrance back when the two of them were kids."
"Yeah. Dad told me that when he was around my age, he was kidnapped by Saulstrance and his friends had to save him. He also said something about a dragon named Angela."
"Angela? What kind of dragon name is that?" Sean asked.
Drake shrugged his shoulders. Then continued with the story.
"Dad said that Angela was a very good friend of his and that she took care of him when he was becoming a dragon. But Saulstrance captured Angela and killed her so he could drink her blood and become a dragon again."
"Eww!" Sean exclaimed.
"Dad also said something that I didn't get."
"What?" Sean asked.
"He said that the place he was being held in exploded thanks to my grandparents setting the place to self-destruct. My grand parents died but..."
"But what?" Sean asked again.
"Dad said that he didn't see any remains of Saulstrance." Drake explained.
"So wait a minute. Does that mean that Saulstrance might actually be alive?"
"I dunno. Maybe."
A brief moment of silence was had. Drake closed his eyes again and slowly, his body began to revert back to a fully humanlike form.
"I'm gonna head home." Drake said, with a smile.
"Awright. See ya tomorrow, Drake." Sean said.
The two friends gave each other a quick high five then headed for home.
After a good 15 minutes of walking, Drake eventually made it home.
"Mom! Dad! I'm home!" Drake called out.
"Drake, where were you? It's getting late!" Sarah scolded.
"I'm sorry, mom. I was just talking with Sean."
"What were you two talking about that took so long?" Titus' voice asked from the next room.
"Guys, if I tell you, promise you won't get mad?" Drake pleaded.
"Why?" Sarah asked in a serious tone.
"I...showed Sean the half-dragon me." Drake said in a somewhat quiet tone.
"YOU DID WHAT???!!!" Titus exclaimed angerly as he walked towards his son.
"I'm sorry dad! I'm sorry!!!" Drake yelled, tears flowing out of his eyes.
"I told you NOT to show ANYONE!"
Drake didn't say anything. Tears ran down his face.
Titus sighed. "It's okay, Drake. If it was just Sean, then that's good."
"Huh?" Drake said, sniffling a little.
"Sean's dad and I were very close friends when we were around your age. His dad knows me better than pretty much everyone else. Well except your mom, your uncle Ben and your cousins. They know me better than Lucas does."
Titus put his hand on his son's hair and rubbed his head.
"Drake, I'm not mad at you. But please be more careful, okay?" Titus asked.
"Okay, dad! I promise!" Drake said.
As night fell, Drake still didn't know why he had to keep his heritage a secret. Did it have to do with the dragon, Saulstrance? Was there something Titus wasn't telling his son? Drake didn't understand at all. He decided to go ask his dad.
