Literature Text

It was noon at Camp Fox. The summer breeze blew through 17 year old Kenny's hair. After hiking for what seemed like hours, Kenny and his camp troop stopped for a break. Kenny was a camp counselor. He was very familiar with the camp seeing as how he had been going since he was 10. To Kenny, Camp Fox was his second home.

Kenny had four kids in his group. Two of them between 10 and 12 years old. The others were older. At least 13 and 14. It was a custom at Camp Fox to mix age groups. Two older kids would be placed in a group with two younger kids. This was so that the younger kids would be able to get used to the older kids.

Kenny sat on the ground. He pulled from his backpack five waterbottles and gave four to his group, the other belonging to him.

"Kenny, sir?" Mike, one of the younger kids asked.

"Yeah, Mike?" Kenny replied.

"I was wondering. Why is this place called 'Camp Fox'?"

Kenny gave a little chuckle. "Mike, you still haven't figured it out?" Kenny asked. He then proceeded to explain.

"It's called Camp Fox because there are over two hundred foxes living in these parts. From what I heard, when the camp was built, there were hardly any foxes living around here. But a few years later, many foxes began showing up. Thus the name of the camp became Camp Fox."

"In that short of time?" Tom, the older boy asked.

"Yeah, I still have trouble believing it." Kenny said, giving another light laugh.

"But..." Kenny continued.

"But what?" Sarah, the older girl asked.

"During my time here, I've noticed kids dissappearing around camp. One day they're here, having fun. The next, they're gone. The counselors before me would say that the kids got sick and had to go home. But they never came back."

"How's that weird though, Kenny? They just got sick." Sarah said.

"Yeah. THAT'S not the weird part. THIS is: When the kids would leave, more foxes would show up, as if out of nowhere.

The kids pondered the meaning behind it. The younger kids were a bit freaked out, hoping they wouldn't be the next ones to dissappear.

"Well, enough of that. Let's head back. It's getting late." Kenny said, standing up.

"Yeah." the kids replied, heading back with their counselor.

Back at camp, it was time for dinner.

The kids all ate together. All kids with different counselors. Kenny went into the kitchen to get something for himself. Just then, another counselor came in.

"Oh, hi, Kenny!"

"Hey, Becky." Kenny greeted back.

"Those kids of yours look like they're a good group." Becky complimented.

"Yeah. They get along really well."

"Umm, listen, Kenny?" Becky asked.

"Hmm?"

"You remember back when we were kids here?"

"Yeah, I was so nervous around you. You were really cute back then. I mean you still are, of course." Kenny said, trying to clear up what he meant.

"Thanks. But that's not what I was getting at."

"Then what do you mean?" Kenny asked.

"You remember when the counselors told me my little sister got sick and went back home?"

"Yeah? What about it?" Kenny asked.

"Well, when the summer was coming to an end, I asked my parents, right? They said my sister never came home!"

"Then, what're you implying? That she's still here?" Kenny asked.

"It's a possiblility. That's why I became a counselor here. I want to get any lead I can on finding my sister's whereabouts!"

Just then, the kitchen door opened.

"C-Counselor Shredback!" The kids exclaimed.

"You kids having private time in here?"

"N-no sir!" The counselors answered.

Kenny and Becky proceeded to leave the kitchen. Just then, Becky was stopped by Shredback.

"Becky, my dear, may I talk to you?"

"What is it, sir?" Becky asked.

"...Give up this pointless search for your sister. She's gone."

Becky gave a surprised look. How could he have known she was searching for her sister? Was Shredback eavesdropping on Kenny and Becky's conversation?

"Sir! Were you..."

"You take care, my dear." Shredback said, exiting the kitchen as well.

Becky just stood in the kitchen, surprised and shocked. was her sister truly gone? And what exactly did he mean by that? Becky was certain now. Shredback DID know where her sister was.

After dinner, Kenny's group went to sleep. Kenny himself walked out of the tent. Upon heading back to the main buliding, he ran into Becky.

"Becky, what're you doing out here?" Kenny asked.

"I need to talk to you, Kenny!" Becky exclaimed, upset.

"You okay? You don't sound too happy." Kenny asked.

" Shredback knows what happened to my sister." She explained.

"HE DOES???!!!"

"Yeah. I'm going to confront him about it. See what he knows.

"You sure you'll get something out of him?" Kenny asked.

"All I can do is hope." Becky replied.

The two friends headed towards the main building and entered Shredback's office. The lights were still on, but no sign of Shredback.

Becky walked towards Shredback's desk. She looked at some papers that seemed to intrigue her.

"What's up, Bec? Find something?" Kenny asked.

"Look at these Kenny!"

Kenny gasped at the papers. "That's what's happened to the missing kids! But... how?"

Shredback walked back into his office and caught sight of the kids. He jolted back and ran out the door, towards the campers' area.

"GET BACK HERE, SHREDBACK!!!" Becky screamed, giving chase.

"Bec, wait!" Kenny scramed, grabbing the papers and following behind. When he got outside, he had lost sight of Shredback and Becky. A scream thatg came from the direction of the campers' tents notified Kenny that Becky and Shredback were in that direction.

By the time Kenny got there, Becky and Shredback had dissappeared. He used this time to check on the campers. The campers had all dissappeared! Save for one camper. A little boy from Kenny's group.

"Sid. Sid, wake up!" Kenny whispered.

Sid gave a little moan, noting that he was still drowzy and had no idea f what was going on.

"Kenny, what's wrong?" Sid asked.

"We need to get way from here, Sid."

"Where are we going then?" Sid asked.

"Somewhere safe. Now, c'mon!

As Kenny and Sid made their way out of the tent, they saw Shredback, standing by the tent, waiting for them.

"Shredback..." Kenny said angerly. "What did you do to the kids?! And where's Becky?!"

"You want Becky? She's right here!" Shredback said, pointing to a small, orange fox.

Kenny gasped in horror. He couldn't believe it.

"I guess you already know what I've been doing, seeing as how you had to be a nosy Pete and take a peep at my plans." Shredback sighed. "I'm ashamed of you, Kenny. You were the only camper I ever truly liked. I spared you from being turned into a fox because I thought you would never question why so many campers dissappeared. But every year, it seemed you became more and more suspicious of me. Until your suspicions finally got the better of you."

"What?" Kenny asked.

"Sid, come here." Shredback ordered.

"Sid, wait, don't!" Kenny exclaimed.

"Kenny, I'd like to introduce you to...my son, Sid Shredback."

Shredback smiled at his son. "You did a fine job, Sid."

Sid smiled wickedly at his previous counselor. " What a grade A moron, dad. He didn't even find it suspicious that I was the only kid who wasn't turned into a fox."

Kenny was in a complete shock. Shredback's plans, Sid being Shredback's sun.

"Well, Kenny. It's been fun. But unfortunately, you know too much. And so...you'll just have to become one with the others."

The pain in Kenny's ears awoke him from his shock. He could feel them streching and growing longer, becoming a set of fox ears. Kenny gasped and started to make a run for the exit to the camp. He made it halfway before feeling a sharp pain in his back. His shorts ripped open, and a long, bushy fox tail grew out. Kenny hurried even faster towards the exit and eventually, made his way out of camp, the transformation ceasing to continue.

"Dad, he's getting away!" Sid exclaimed.

"Let him go, son." Shredback said.

"But..."

" I seriously doubt that, even with a fox's ears and tail that anyone would truly believe him. Besides he wouldn't be able to go back into society anyways. Not as a half human half fox." Shredback explained.

The father and son duo watched as Kenny, now with his ears shaped as a fox's, and a fox tail growing out of his pants, ran as fast as he could. Eventually, Kenny was out of their sight.

Five years later, Camp Fox was shut down. The camp was sued by the parents of the missing kids, two of the parents being Kenny's. Under court order, the camp was forced to shut down.

Another five years later, a new camp took the place of Camp Fox. This one, claiming to be safer, went under the name Camp Dragon.

And what happened to Kenny? It's unknown. His parents stated that he never came home after summer and his current wherabouts are unknown. His parents are offering $5,000 cash for their son's safe return. According to eyewitnesses, it's said that a werefox roams the town where Kenny once lived. It is believed that the were fox, actually is Kenny.

THE END
The first part to what is possibly gonna be a two part series.
